Anti-Gentrification Struggle
One of the aims of this blog is to draw attention to the anti-gentrification struggle in Praga. If you are a yuppie, upwardly-mobile student or artist, you are part of the problem - unless you become part of the solution. We don't need your hangouts, art galleries and "projects" - we need people to take active part in the resistance.
The anti-gentrification struggle is also the struggle to maintain the dignity of the poor and low-income workers who are faced with being replaced by yuppies, artists and other more profitable and "attractive" inhabitants.
The internationally recognized slogan "Die Yuppie Scum" does not exactly translate well into Polish, but the idea is well understood.

The Hell with the National Stadium
The city bureaucrats and Eurocrats have been all gung-ho about the building of a new National Stadium in Praga which will be used for the Euro 2012. They are acting as if football was the greatest thing to happen to the city and are using the building of the Stadium as a pretext to harrass locals working around the stadium, deport foreign peddlars selling things around it and to "clean up" the neighbourhood. On top of this all, the Stadium is a dangerous work site, where there are really bad working conditions for many, if not most of the people. There already was a number of wildcat strikes and two people were killed there in December.
